Winfast DTV Dongle..watch telly on your lappy

This is a nifty little gadget, I bought one for myself recently so I could watch a bit of TV during those late late nights working.
Its a little USB dongle that lets you watch Digital TV on your computer - so long as your computer's got the grunt and you have a decent signal .. no problems! I found my laptop wasnt actually able to handle this and dropped frames.. so I moved it to a spare desktop. It seems to be 'just' powerful enough.. and works well (but not with the included antenna, I had to add a larger external antenna to get a decent signal - so the size of the dongle is amost irrelivent if you have to carry around an huge arial). I would say it works well, but not brilliantly - on my desktop pc, if the control panel box overlays the picture, the picture slows down to a crawl, like it just doesnt have enough grunt to carry it out smoothly.. I also cant get a smooth picture with HDTV, only Standard - it seems to skip frames - it is probably just a factor of the machine I have it on which is a server spec with only 256mb ram and a less than powerful graphics card - so I assume on a decent spec machine you wouldnt get the problems I have had. Even with these minor problems I'm still very happy with it.. I paid AUD$110 which is about half what other external DTV computer receivers cost & the picture quality is great!

Radio Shark

Griffin technologies certainly make some cool accessories - and check this out - its a USB radio tuner. Great you say.. so what.
Well the cool thing is (apart from it looking totally Funky on your desk) is that it records to your computer (mac or pc).
So what you're still saying.. okay you're not getting the big picture - the included software allows you to time-shift your recordings, just like a PVR (personal video recorder) - or Tivo in America., or schedule it to record your favourite shows. ahaa!
Personally I'd buy one just 'cos it does look so cool.. :-)
RRP seems to be about AUD$150 - best price I could find is digilife.com.au for AUD$99.95 [JUMP]

Ibiza Ride Digital LED Watch

Ultra cool and sleek, it displays the time with a mighty 60 coloured LEDs, and can also show the date - well it shows you some illuminated LED's and you then have to work out the date.
The left hand double column tells you what hour it is (or month when in date mode), and the other columns tell you the minutes (or days). The LED's fire up with a simple press of the winder button (that isn't a winder obviously), and stays lit for 5 seconds, and a helpful pile of LEDs in the bottom right hand corner of the face let you know if it's a.m. or p.m. (in case you're too out of it to work that out for yourself), and when your in 'Date' mode, which sounds rather more exciting than it is.
Virtually no-one will ever own a cooler watch!
Features- 60 coloured LED lights that display the time and date. - Three columns of LEDS for hours, tens of minutes and minutes. - A sleek, stainless steel watch face. - A black genuine leather strap. - A function button. When pressed once it illuminates the time for 5 seconds, pressed twice, the date. - LED colours include blue, green and red. - Water Resistant up to 30 metres. - Requires 2 x CR2032 Batteries (included).

LavNav - for those who miss and hit the floor

Do you stumble into the toilet late at night.. and totally miss the bowl and soak the floor in urine? If you're a woman thats a worry, for man.. ah give us a break.. its not as easy as it looks. Anyway - not that I've ever missed.. but if you are a bad shot - this toilet night light - the LavNav will help you find your way. If you still keep missing you might need a TomTom GPS system to help you..
The LavNav uses red or green light to highlight the target and turns itself on as you approach in the dark and off as you leave.
It does this by detecting the electrical disturbance you make in the ion field surrounding the area by the higher neuromatic impulses transmitted by a full bladder.. or maybe it just uses a little IR sensor.
So for $51 you can get this from expansys.com.au and never have an excuse to miss the bowl again!

Roomba Discovery - my verdict

I would love the roomba anyway, just for the whole robotics thing but I should focus on how well it does its job.
I expect that it would remove most or all loose dirt & crumbs etc. I'm happy to say it does this and does it well. My wife usually vacuums at least once if not twice a day, since we got the Roomba Discovery last Friday - she hasn't needed to vacuum at all. I think that speaks for itself.
The instant advantage to us is the large vacuum cleaner doesnt need to be out all the time - with the frequency of our vacuuming in the past, the old Dyson rarely made it to its storage cupboard.. it was generally left out ready for the next clean. So we have more space! The Roomba lives under the couch so its totally hidden and only comes out when we command it to with the remote (the scheduling remote accessory is coming soon, as in the next month).
Is this a junky toy that bounces around the room, picking up hardly anything and getting stuck all the time? No.. its solid, does a good cleaning job and I havent seen it get into a spot it cant get out of by itself.
Totally impressed! - Its also not too noisy, yes it does make a noise.. its a vacuum cleaner what do you expect.. but its not half as noisy as an upright. If you check out the video below, I have the TV on in the background at a normal level so you can compare.
